Mariager is one of the smallest boroughs in Denmark. Population is about 2000. It is a charming old town dated from about 1400. It was granted borough charter in 1592. The town has attractive old half-timbered houses, cobbled streets, street lamps and roses.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Mariager is a picturesque old town with an environment rarely seen in Denmark. There are no parking restrictions. Life proceeds at a leisurely pace. Busses, agricultural machinery and ordinary traffic driving in the quaint old streets. This is no artificial village. Old buildings have been preserved in their original style and are still in use.
