Arne Jacobsen, the furniture designer

Architect and designer Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971) graduated from the Royal Academy in Copenhagen, where he received the gold medal of honour - one of many distinctions that Jacobsen, in his indefatigable quest for excellence, would garner during his lifetime. At an early stage of his career, Jacobsen teamed with furniture manufacturer Fritz Hansen, a legendary collaboration that would result in some of the most successful and prestigious pieces of furniture the world has ever known: The Ant Chair (1952), The Series 7 Chair (1955), The Egg, and The Swan (1958). Fritz Hansen Furniture is a brand name inextricably linked with modern Danish designer furniture. Apart from Arne Jacobsen, many top designers have created furniture designs for Fritz Hansen, i.e. Kaare Klint, Børge Mogensen, Piet Hein, Bruno Mathsson, Verner Panton, and Poul Kjærholm.
