The island Birkholm is situated in the middle of the archipelago south of Funen. The island is just 96 hectares and is extremely flat.
The highest elevation on Birkholm is a mere 1.8 metre above sea level. The island has beautiful old farmhouses, lovely beaches and ample opportunities for fishing.
Of all the inhabited Danish islands, Birkholm is the smallest. Birkholm is part of the municipality of Ærø. To visit the island, there is a postboat leaving Marstal twice a day. On account of the dikes as well as the game, visitors are requested to keep to the roads and the footpath, and dogs should be kept on a leash.
