Panorama route: Ride on water

Open farmland, Denmark’s highest sand dune and one of Scandinavia’s top gourmet experiences

1. Ride on water

Surrounded by seabirds and waterfowl, this 20 km cycling route lets you explore a patchwork landscape of open farmland and Denmark’s tallest dune, Blåbjerg, which reaches 64 metres above sea level. This is a forested section of the cycling route with gravel roads perfectly suited for mountain biking. You even get to pedal across a narrow dam that cuts across the Filsø Lake. On the route and just a short distance from the windswept nature reserve, you find one of Denmark’s top gourmet experiences, Henne Kirkeby Kro. The exclusively modernised 300 year old thatched inn secured The Nordic Prize as Scandinavia’s Best Restaurant in 2012. Headed by Paul Cunningham, former executive chef of the Michelin-rated The Paul in Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen, the restaurant serves field-to-fork gourmet cuisine made with artisanal local produce and vegetables from the restaurant garden. The inn also takes part in the region-wide annual Lamb Festival, which spotlights the unique culinary qualities of lamb from the salty marshlands. Travellers on the cycling route can also visit local farms during the Filsø Food Festival for a taste of local specialities.

The Panorama initiative

Powered by Cycling: Panorama is a new initiative that makes it easier for holidaymakers in Denmark to experience some of the best the nation has to offer. The Panorama initiative offers 26 new looped cycling routes that branch out from two of Denmark’s most scenic national cycling route - the West Coast Route and the Berlin-Copenhagen Route. The short routes have been upgraded with new cycling infrastructure and an international hospitality quality labelling system - Bike+Bed. Many of these routes offer a unique chance to explore nature, heritage and family attractions in Denmark by pedal power.
