Dansk Landbrugsmuseum Gl. Estrup - Djursland - Eastjutland
More than 6,000 years of exciting history are on display in the form of exhibitions and open storehouses with tractors and agricultural machinery. The Botanical Garden provides a good impression of the abundance of vegetables, herbs and spices, berries and flowers that have been typical of Danish kitchen gardens during the past 200 years. Come and see the Apple Orchard with its 230 different varieties of Danish apples as well as the newly established hop gardens. In the fields and in the stables at the Agricultural Living Heritage Centre you can see old Danish livestock breeds of cows, sheep, goats and chickens.
Children can pat and stroke the friendly animals in the play area.
For more than a hundred years farming in Denmark has been developing into an industry, not only out in the fields, but also in the stalls and in food production. This industrialisation has been a source of affluence, and it has had a direct impact on our daily lives and on the food we eat.
The Agricultural Museum is staging its first-ever exhibition about hot-dog stands and fast-food culture from mid-February until mid-November, as well as a new permanent exhibition about the cultural history of slaughterhouses from mid-November.
The blacksmiths are busy in the Old Smithy throughout the summer months, and there are daily demonstrations of cottage crafts and weaving inside the museum. There are a large number of special events from the end of April until the beginning of December. Read more about these at www.gl-estrup.dk. The Agricultural Museum has excellent facilities for the disabled and is classified as a four-star attraction.
