Denmark Instagrammed: Roskilde Festival and beyond

If you're considering a day trip out of Copenhagen, or even a few days in the countryside around the capital, then head west towards Roskilde. As well as Denmark's old capital, home of UNESCO World Heritage Site, Roskilde Cathedral, and Roskilde Festival, this part of Denmark is rich in historic sites and relaxed open countryside to explore. Local Simon Larsen captures the region on Instagram and has shared some of his highlights with you here.

1. #RoskildeFestival

'Growing up in the Roskilde area the Roskilde Festival has kind of been part of my life since a very early age. Every year I go and I find the vibe extremely addictive. A summer tradition not to be missed.'

2. #DanishNature: Denmark's longest avenue

'One day driving home from work I noticed a special light as the sun was setting. It was in the early spring and the leaves on the trees had a beautiful light green color. The longest avenue in Denmark is part of my daily route and I pulled over to shoot a picture of the sun coming through the leaves.' Ledreborg Alle is the route up to Ledreborg Palace and Land of Legends.
