Frederiks 2.s's canopy
From 24 April 2012 and four years ahead you can experience a true Renaissance masterpiece at Kronborg Castle: The castle gets its 426 years old table canopy back. Frederik 2 and his queen Sofie's canopy is of very high quality and is the only one of only two table canopies that still exist from the Renaissance. It is woven in classy purple silk with interwoven treads of silver and gold.
Atable canopy is an ornate piece of fabric that ensures that dust and dirt do not fall down from the ceiling and land in the food. At the same time it symbolizes the sky firmament and makes the person sitting under the sky to center of the world and master.
Frederik 2.s's canopy was taken as booty during the Swedish wars, and is usually exhibited in Stockholm at the National Museum. Due to rebuilding of the museum it can be seen at Kronborg Castle until 2017.
