Frederik II – King of Denmark and Norway from 1559 to 1588
During the period 1562-1574 Frederik II of Denmark and Norway rebuilt Skanderborg Castle in Renaissance style and in 1583 he gave the town of Skanderborg a municipal charter. Frederik II is probably the king who has resided in Skanderborg Castle the most. Here he could enjoy hunting in the local deer park and in the surrounding game district.
In 1916 the head clerk C. F. Jansen donated a memorial with the monogram of King Frederik II and the town arms to Skanderborg.
