Grave of RAF pilot, Klitmøller Churchyard

RAF pilot Sergeant Richard Samuel Pitts was buried here, in Klitmøller, on 19.11.1939.

During a photo mission, on September 30th 1939, north-east of Helgoland, his plane shot down, and the entire crew perished. The aircraft's pilot, R. S. Pitts, was found dead on November 17th, washed-up on the beach between Klitmoeller and Hanstholm.

He was the first casualty allied airmen, during WWII, to be buried in Denmark.
