The Danish Jewish Museum

The Danish Jew's escape to Sweden in October 1943 has become world famous. Far less known is the story of the challenges that Danish Jews met, when they returned to Denmark after the liberation in 1945. The Danish Jewish Museum brings this into focus in the special exhibition HOME.

After the liberation in May 1945, Danish Jews returned to Denmark with gratitude to have survived but nothing was as before. The country, the Danish Jews returned to, had changed and they were no longer the same persons as before they escaped from Denmark.

Not all, but a part of the Danish Jews returned with traumatic experiences, changing values and lifestyles.

The exhibition contrasts the familiar light story with unknown history about the refugee issues.
