Jels Voldsted

Jels Castle Mounds was once an impressive fortress, and it is believed to have been the seat of an Earl during the "Viking Age"(Early medieval times).

On the landward side the castle was protected by ramparts and moats, and towards the lakes by a remarkable pile-work. But little is known of the appearance of the fortification.
