Kay Bojesen exhibition

Sophienholm presents an exhibition that puts a unique focus on one of the 20th century's greatest Danish designers, Kay Bojesen.

Bojesen served his apprenticeship as a silversmith at Georg Jensen and so his career began with designing jewelry and cutlery. Best known is probably the internationally award-winning cutlery Grand Prix.

Yet most people might know Bojesen for his simple yet distinctive wooden animals as well as his toys and furniture for children.

The exhibition presents a charming and original universe of industrial design in silver and wood with Bojesen animals, toys, rocking horses and wooden figures with roots in the simple Danish design tradition.

Up until his death in 1958, Bojesen designed over 2000 objects in silver, wood, bast, porcelain, glass, tin, bamboo and melamin. To this day, many of his designs are now valuable collectibles.

Kay Bojesen biography

The publishing company Gyldendals Forlag is publishing a comprehensive biography of Kay Bojesen written by journalist and author, Lars Olsen Hedebo.

Furthermore, a number of Bojesen designs are put into reproduction due to popular demand.
