Kirsten Kjær's Museum
In 1980 the Danish artist, Kirsten Kjær (1893-1985) left all her paintings and drawings to a foundation. This collection now forms the basis of her museum, which opened in 1981 in a small farmhouse near her birthplace in a remote area of northern Jutland between the North Sea and the Limfjord. Kirsten Kjærs Museum is situated in a nice pastoral landscape, with cows, horses, and sheep grazing in the fields around the museum against a background of farmland, Tømmerby Fjord, and surrounding forest.
Since its opening this modest, private museum has developed into an art centre comprising of 3 farmhouses with several galleries, sculpture park, guest house for artists and musicians, and workshops for bronze casting, ceramics, and graphics.
Changing every month during the summer, the museum has 5-6 exhibitions of works by other artists - local, national, and international. Visitors are welcome to watch the workshop processes whenever they are in use.
We also have 10-12 evening classical music concerts, performed in the museum's main hall, during the summer. The concert programmes are announced in the local newspapers and at the tourist offices in the neighbouring towns.
A short video film about Kirsten Kjær, her life, and her museum is shown during opening hours in Danish, English, or German. The video film is a good starting point for a visit.
