Morgentimen (Morning Hour)
Morning Hour, Weathered Steel sculpture by Kurt Tegtmeier 1990, Hjørring
This sculpture is reminiscent of a human figure just beginning to rise from a prone postion, just as one does in the morning.
Kurt Tegtmeier once said of this work , it's called Morning hour because "it is here when you first wake up and your vision is not quite clear yet" (Vendsyssel Tidende, 2.1.1991).
The abstract vision is of a person who is placing their feet on the floor and with one hand supporting themselves on the bed before standing up. But it is first and formost about a non-figurative sculpture where the construction decieves the materials actual heaviness: the steel is contorted into soft curves giving the appearence of lightness.
