"Motor Functional Movement" (MOTORISK BEVÆGELSE). Iron sculpture by Jørgensen, Børge: 1967. Hjørring
This sculpture was one of the very first abstract artworks to be placed in Hjørring. The fact that Hjørring’s citizens may not have been quite ready for this modern piece is indicated by the fact that they gave it the nickname, “the ostrich”.
The association to an ostrich is understandable, due to the round body a long neck and two long skinny legs. Børge Jørgensen was as an abstract sculptor very interested in the relationship between shapes and space and his own title for this piece "Motor Functional Movement" refers to the dynamics between "the rotating movevents" of the torso and "the latent movements" of the long legs.
