Beautiful, idyllic and with the serenity of old Copenhagen lies Restaurant Kanalen in the house that used to serve as customs office for the area of Christianshavn.
In an unusual location right outside the windows is Christianshavn's Canal with sailing ships, dinghies and tastefully restored old warehouses.
Simple yet elegant décor
The restaurant has been beautifully restored, and inside the light sorts of wood, the white walls, the wide wooden planks, and the many windows on the water create a room characterised by the simple yet elegant Scandinavian architecture.
This pleasant intimacy is found a mere ten minutes walk from the city centre.
Danish Lunch and dinner
The Danish lunch menu includes a vast variety of herring dishes, the pride of traditional Danish cuisine.
The herring is marinated to various old recipes that have been passed down through generations. Lunch dishes also include delicious curried fish cakes, a long-time favourite with local patrons.
The dinner menu unites the Danish tradition with the best elements of French and Italian cooking. Skilful and professional chefs prepare the food with profound respect for the ingredients in season.
Outdoor seating in summer
In summer the gourmet restaurant Kanalen has outdoor seating on the terrace facing the waterfront of the Christianshavns Canal.
You can have your lunch served here or you can spend a long beautiful summer night enjoying an exceptionally well-prepared dinner.
The climate-friendly restaurant focuses on the environment not only by cutting down on transport.
It has also signed up for Copenhagen's Climate+ programme, and in the first few months it managed to make a 30 percent cut on waste and to reduce the electricity bill so much that the supplier suspected a failure on the meter.
