A Royal Affair guided tour
Come to the Kingdom of Denmark, and relive the story of love and madness, idealism and intrigue, set forth in the film A Royal Affair, in a guided city walk.
Meet the brilliant and bizarre young King Christian 7 and his young Queen Caroline Mathilde, and see the 18th century Danish court through the eyes of their physician Johan Friedrich Struensee.
The guided Royal Affair walking tour will open the doors to palaces for you, and open your eyes to the charms and secrets of royal Copenhagen.
The knowledgeable guides tell the tale amidst the Rococo architecture of Christiansborg and in the corridors of the Prince’s Palace at the National Museum.
A two-hour tour of the Enlightenment
You will delve into the narrow cobbled streets of Copenhagen to visit the dark side of the Enlightenment – and hear of the scandals caused by the insane King Christian 7 – not least through his passion for the fearsome Boot Katrine.
The story ends at the square Nytorv, where the king’s justice was felt by unfortunate sinners.
It is a fateful episode of Danish history, and one of the greatest royal love scandals of Europe.
