Saltwater lake at Højer

In the western Margrethe-Kog (1979-82), which is a nature reserve, a 2.6 km2 saltwater lake has been created, where fresh seawater is pumped in, so that there is a rich animal life as a food source for the birds, the lake is a kind of substitute for the part of the Wadden Sea that disappeared when the extended dyke was built.

There is no access to the lake itself, but we humans can follow from a distance, where we can still get an insight into fantastic nature at a rare close-up.

There is a nice view of the saltwater island from the border road south of Margrethe Kog if you cross the border at Siltoft.
