After the loss of Southern Jutland in 1864, a national meeting and festival site was created in this wooded area. Today, the site is surrounded by memorials to a number of well-known Danes. The Magnus Stone and the Mother Tongue - two of the finest examples of Danish granite sculpture - are to be found here.
