The Danish Museum of Hunting and Forestry
The Danish Museum for Hunting and Forestry is not what you may think. Children love it and their families keep coming back. More than 3.000 m2 of exhibitions are stuffed with animals and funny things you may try. Dress like a stone-age hunter or forest worker for example or “take a drive” on the good old Ferguson tractor. Imagine the selfies you can make! Follow the fox’s track from one stuffed Reynard to the next and learn their heart breaking or hair rising stories.
In weekends and holidays the museum’s big garden is full of activities. Consult the program on our website when planning your visit. The museum is ideal for a day tour and you might as well visit when something is up. The quartering of a fallow deer e.g. or tasting venison. At times you may climb, try yourself out as an archer, try a ropeway, or use a two-handle saw. Only you cannot get bored.
The grown up public may be fascinated by the collections of Danish, Greenland or Faroese wildlife, weapons, hunting accessories, punts, phaetons and trophies or wood samples from past and present, tools, machines, and chainsaws. All presented in a way that reflects man’s use of nature and its effect through thousands of years.
Shifting exhibitions and activities especially for children are arranged all year round. An updated program may be found at www.jagtskov.dk.
The Danish Museum for Hunting and Forestry is housed in the beautiful baroque stables and barn from the now demolished castle of Hirschholm Slot. It is situated close to the University’s Arboretum and has a wonderful garden, all of which makes it perfectly fit for a summer excursion.
