Practical Christmas information

Denmark is a great place to visit over Christmas, not just because of the festive atmosphere. Shop and attractions pull out all the stops to make Christmas shopping and entertaining your family, stress free and enjoyable. But there are times at which shops, restaurants and attractions close their doors and it's a good idea to plan around that. Here are some tips on Christmas opening hours and transport.

Public holidays during the Christmas period

During the Christmas period, Denmark observes national public holidays on 25 and 26 December, as well as 1 January.

Shop opening hours during Christmas

In general, all shops are allowed to stay open 24 hours a day and trade what they want. In reality, most major shops and department stores will operate opening hours from 9/10am to 6/8pm during December, whilst some stores stay open until 10pm.

All shops must be closed on the public holidays of 25 and 26 December, and 1 January. Furthermore, shops must be closed on Christmas Eve (24 December) and from 3pm on New Year's Eve (31 December).

Public transport during Christmas

Most public transport services operate normal or extended services during the festive season. For more information, please check the websites for the relevant transport operators in the links below.
