Following national unrest on Zealand, the Rigsråd councillors whined to Christoffer of Bayern, the nephew of King Erik of Pomerania, that ...we live in mortal danger every day". Christoffer was crowned in 1440 and seized military power when a North Jutland peasant revolt broke out in 1441 – probably triggered by the high taxes. Legend has it that the peasants won the battle of St Jørgensbjerg and burned down several of Han Herred's estates. In the next battle of St Jørgensbjerg in June, the peasants were defeated and the ring leader, Henrik Tagesen, was executed. "
