Restaurant Ida Davidsen
Restaurant Ida Davidsen is probably the most famous place in inner Copenhagen to taste Danish smørebrød also called open-faced sandwiches.
If you think Danish Crown Prince Frederik, footballer Michael Laudrup, or entertainer Victor Borge are dishy, this may be the place for you.
Celebs immortalised as sandwiches
All have had smørebrød sandwiches named after them. In all, there are more than 250 types to choose from.
Many other notabilities are on the menu, former Lord Mayor Ms Ritt Bjerregaard just to name one.
She is available as a slice of bread topped with smoked leg of lamb, scrambled eggs and herbs.
140 centimetre menu
The waiters will help you get the 140 centimetre long menu under control. It is in the Guiness Book of Records.
The next hurdle, of course, is deciding what to have. The extensive list of open-faced sandwiches has evolved over more than 100 years.
Ida herself runs in the kitchen, fifth generation Oscar runs the business.
The kitchen closes at 16:00.
