Nature Reserve
The area of Stavns Fjord marks the transition between the northern and southern parts of the island of Samsø. The shallow waters of Stavns Fjord are characterised by many islets covered with grasses and scrub. In order to preserve the special natural environment of the area, in 1926 a wildlife reserve was established in Stavns Fjord covering about 1.650 hectares. In 1981, some 1.525 hectares of land in and around the fjord was declared protected.
Around the islands, islets and reefs in Stavns Fjord, as well as around that part of Besser Rev situated north of Draget, access on foot is forbidden in a zone reaching 50 metres out from the highest daily water level 1.4. - 15.7.
