Thousands of geese around an old farmstead in Western Jutland. A farm, which tells the story of the times “when Copenhagen was a place far away”.
Strandgaarden is situated close to the sea and next to road between Søndervig and Vedersø Klit. It is one of many beautiful “klitgårde” in the protected area at Vest Stadil Fjord and Husby Klit. The word klitgård is used about the old farms close to the North Sea and means “dune farmstead”.
This was built in 1875 and has since 1977 been a popular museum. The farmhouse has a display about the greylag geese that come by the thousands to rest at Vest Stadil Fjord every spring and autumn. Another display tells about fishing in old ships and the story of the farm. An old baking oven is still to be seen in the scullery, and in the wings are collections of tools for fishing and farming. The barn has an impressive timber construction, and contains old material used for rescues.
