In his nature-based regional poetry, realism is united with a pantheistic perception of a cosmic life force running through all living things. Slægternes træ (The Tree of Families) from 1914 includes "Danmark nu blunder den lyse nat" (Denmark, now slumbers the twilight night), which is still sung today in summer in Denmark.
