Billund is the "Capital of Children"
In 2012, Billund became the Capital of Children. A place with exciting play areas, right from huge bubble animals for toddlers to parkour for teenagers, plus, unique LEGO laboratories in all municipal schools.
The town’s story is deeply intertwined with the growth and success of the LEGO Company: Billund is a true company town.
That’s something that children and adults quickly appreciate when they follow the colourful children’s footprints around our building brick town. Just keep an eye out for the attractive silvergrey stands along the path.
Together, Billund Municipality and the LEGO Foundation have incorporated the Capital of Children Company. It’s the company’s job to bring the Capital of Children vision to fruition.
Capital of Children Company has three focus areas:
1. To make Billund a town for children with lots of exciting and fun things to do.
2. To create an international knowledge centre to conduct research into children’s’ play, learning and creativity.
3. To attract other companies that work with children’s play, learning and creativity.
The plan is for the children’s capital project to grow to the point where it becomes a global meeting place.
