The streets of Copenhagen are filled with happy, colourful people when Copenhagen Carnival parades through town.
During whitsun in 1982, Copenhagen experienced their first carnival, and since then it has been an integrated part of whitsun in Copenhagen.
The carnival has developed since then, and more music and dance genres have been added to the parade. However, the core is the same - a cultural festival in the heart of the city.
Copenhagen Carnival connects numerous continents and takes form in a parade where people in costumes dance through the streets.
Parade through Strøget and party in Ørestad
In 2013 you can experience a large parade going though Strøget - Copenhagen's pedestrian shopping street - in inner Copenhagen.
After the parade through Strøget, the party continues in the Ørestad area on the island of Amager, where the carnival will have various stalls and three outdoor stages in front of DR Byen.
In the DR Concert Hall the kids can participate in a kids carnival, everything free of charge.
From 23:00 there will be a concert, featuring Danish artists such as Donkey Sound and Shaka Loveless, which requires a ticket.
