Esrum Kloster og Møllegård in the Autumn Holiday
Esrum is situated in one of the most beautiful parts of Denmark, and this made French monks move in 800 years ago – not just for the loveliness, but very much for the large array of lakes, brooks, woods and fields. The Danish kings have always cherished the region for hunting and recreation.
No autumn holidays without focus on family activities, this year being no exception.
During the autumn holidays all of the family can participate in exciting and amusing activities. These are free when you have bought your ticket for the monastery.
This year’s theme is WOOL! The Cistercian monks were skilled sheep farmers. Their wool was said to be cleaner than other farmers’. And the lay brothers were also skilled in shearing, carding, spinning – all of which you can try out yourself during the holidays. Here you can also process the wool, cut your own wooden spindle, try weaving and felting, making your own monk puppet, or petting a sheep. If you get hungry you can make pancakes Middle Ages style with quinces or apples.
