Hertug Hans Church
Hertug Hans Church and Hospital was founded in 1569 by Duke Hans the Elder, and proofs that the Reformation movement cared for the weak and poor of the society. The church, which has been part of the hospital since the very beginning, stands largely unaltered today.
Here, you can also see the oldest stained glass in Haderslev, which bears the Duke's arms and the year 1569, when the Hospitalchurch was founded. For centuries, the church has served as an annex-church for Haderslev Cathedral. The design of the alter is unusual in Denmark, as pulpit alters are generally a rarity. It was probably built around 1724 and is in the baroque style.
Every year there is a memorial ceremony on April 9th by the obelisk in the courtyard. Here, the names of four soldiers, who fell on the morning of April 9th 1940 during the German invasion, are engraved on the obelisk.
