Konen med æggene

The sculpture symbolises that the market square by Helligåndshuset, where "Konen med Æggene" is situated, in the old days was used as egg market. Here the neighbourhoods farmer's wives sold their products. The artist Ane Brügger thought of the theme "Konen med Æggene" (the Woman with the Eggs) as an obvious motif for a Association of Commerce and a square in which eggs were once sold.

In 1958, Ane Brügger crafted the sculpture with her daugther Ingeborg as a model. Later in 1975, 100 years after H. C. Andersen's death, the sculpture was renovated and casted in bronze. The pedestal carries the first line of H. C. Andersen's poem "the Woman with the Eggs".
