Public holidays during the Christmas period

During the Christmas period, Denmark observes national public holidays on 25 and 26 December, as well as 1 January.

Shop opening hours during Christmas

In general, all shops are allowed to stay open 24 hours a day and trade what they want. In reality, most  major shops and department stores will operate with opening hours from 9/10am to 6/8pm during December, whilst some stores stay open until 10pm.

All shops must be closed on the public holidays of 25 and 26 December, and 1 January. Furthermore, shops must be closed on Christmas Eve (24 December) and from 3pm on New Year's Eve (31 December).

Most public transport services operate normal or extended services during the festive season. For more information, please check the websites for the relevant transport operators.
