Skt. Laurentius (St. Lawrence) Church

© Roskilde Museum

Skt. Laurentii Kirke, The church of Sct. Lawrence, at Stændertorvet, was built around 1125 A.D. of travertine from the underground of Roskilde. During the reformation in 1536 the church was demolished. Only the tower was left, and is today the tower of the city hall.

The ruins are preserved 2 metres under the square Stændertorvet. They reveal the beautiful restored red and black clay tile floor and mediaeval fixtures of the church as well as archaelogical finds from the excavations.
It is now possible to visit both the ruins and the tower of the church.

Admission: 25 kr for adults, 15 kr. for students and seniors, children (0-17 years): Free. Classes and day cares free entrance. Groups (min 5 persons) 15 kr pr. person.

The church is also open everyday during the school holidays.
