Vrads Sande

Vrads Sande near Silkeborg is an enchanting moorland landscape, created by inland dunes shaped by the wild sand drift that danced through large parts of Jutland from the 16th to the 19th century. In 1968, a significant 146 hectares of this natural beauty was protected. This area unfolds as a fascinating, pot-shaped depression with steep slopes that paint a picture of history down to an elegant moorland lake.

Alongside the beautiful depression are small dunes and traces of meltwater terraces, covered in a carpet of lush vegetation. To the east of a picturesque country road, an enchanting heather and juniper forest spreads out, while to the west a wonderland of green heathland reveals itself.

Just east of Vrads Sande, an impressive 300 hectares around Snabegård was dedicated to nature in 1976. This area snuggles up to Salten Å and Lystrup Å, and along the Horsens-Silkeborg Nature Trail, inspiration flows from this fairytale landscape
