The Wadden Sea coast
The Wadden Sea along the west coast is an exciting national park and intertidal wetland teeming with birds and wildlife. You will not find as many swimming beaches on the region’s West Coast, but you can swim at Hjerpsted.
The ruined castle
Koldinghus Castle Ruin is a treat in itself, but it also houses some interesting museums, including one dedicated to Danish silver. Just outside Kolding, you’ll find the Trapholt museum, where you can enjoy contemporary art, handicrafts and design.
Saddle up!
Why not experience the green island of Samsø at the helm of a prairie wagon? You can hire a prairie wagon for a week’s holiday and take in the island’s sights at a relaxed pace.
Mols Bjerge National Park
Head out into Denmark’s second national park, the Mols Hills (Mols Bjerge) on the Djursland peninsula. Explore its hilly heathland, dotted with mulberry bushes, bogs, beach meadows and interesting sights, such as the ruins of Kalø Castle.
Spectacular views
You can see spectacular views of the whole park at the Jernhatten ridge. The central area of the park is made up of high heathlands, forests and large open pastures, while along the coast there are many great beaches to discover.
The Nature Agency produces information leaflets containing maps and descriptions of all public nature areas in Denmark.
A super way to experience Denmark’s nature is to hire a ranger, or guide, to tell you about interesting things along the way. Find out more about this service at your local tourist office or at the visitors centres located in Denmark’s national parks.
