Both in the towns and along the highways, signs signal that rooms are available (Zimmer frei - Rooms). Generally speaking, no red tape is involved in the renting of rooms: you see the sign, stop, sound the bell, and rent the room. This is probably the reason why private rooms are mostly let to touring tourists, who want accommodation for one night only. In many cases, breakfast can be arranged for.

It is difficult to quote average prices for private rooms, but the following prices have been suggested for 2008:

Singles: DKK 225-400
Doubles: DKK 325-550
Extra beds: DKK 75-200
Breakfast: DKK 35-50

If booking takes place in person through a tourist office, a booking fee amounting to DKK 0-50 may be imposed.
