In Denmark we don’t have any of those massive “canvas colonies” with just 10cm between you and the neighbours and a brisk 3km hike to the nearest conveniences. Instead, we have welcoming camping sites where you don’t feel swamped, where the facilities are of a high standard and elbow-room is assured. There are sites at the seaside, in the woods or close to the cities, so there are plenty of places to up sticks for. Camping is a holiday in the great outdoors, where the children find heaps of new playmates and the grown-ups get to chat with their fellow happy campers.
