Copenhagen Downtown Congress Centre sees the daylight

Arp-Hansen Hotel Group is planning to build a new congress centre on a very central spot in the centre of Copenhagen. Scandinavians largest hotel complex is going to be build on the top of the congress centre.

The largest hotel operator Arp-Hansen Hotel Group A/S has bought a property on Kalvebod Brygge of DSB Properties. The plan is to build a large congress- and conference centre for up to 4.000 guests and 3 hotels with a capacity of 1.300 rooms. The assembled building area is 75.000 m2.

With the acquisition of the property along Kalvebod Brygge and framed by the established Kalvebod Allé a wish to supply Copenhagen with a new large congress centre that gives the possibility to draw even larger congresses, conferences and other events to Copenhagen is being realized. The neighbours to the new congress complex are going to be SEB Bank and the Danish National Archives.

Arp-Hansen Hotel Group acquires the property in the spring of 2008 and has already begun planning the architecture and construction in cooperation with architect Kim Utzon. Besides the congress hall that can accommodate 2.200 guests, both large and smaller conference rooms are being built. The project will also contain several hotels in different categories. The first hotel is expected to open in the 4. quarter of 2009, while another 2 hotels is planned to open the following years. The congress hall and the many conference facilities are expected to open in the last half of 2010.

Arp-Hansen Hotel Group has since 1961 conducted hotel business and is today Copenhagen’s largest hotel chain with 1.700 rooms shared on 9 hotels. The hotels are conducted and marketed under the name Arp-Hansen Hotel Group – among the groups known hotels can be mentioned Phoenix Copenhagen, 71 Nyhavn Hotel, Imperial Hotel, Grand Hotel, The Square, Copenhagen Island, Copenhagen Strand and Hotel Opera.
