Copenhagen has long been known as the capital of beer, but things have changed. Lately there has been a boom in dedicated cocktail bars with an international standard in the city.

That is why Copenhagen now has her own cocktail - just like New York, Singapore and Venice. The Copenhagen Cocktail is now Cherry Heering Liqueur's new signature drink, alongside the Singapore Gin Sling.

The new, official taste of the Danish capital was chosen by a panel of qualified critics and live audience at 5-star FIRST Hotel Skt. Petri in Copenhagen on 20 August 2009.
Five of Copenhagen's best bartenders competed to create a cocktail with a Scandinavian taste, inspired by Danish design's streamlined features, combining the modern and trendy with the historical and traditional, including Cheery Herring Liqueur, and which would be easily made worldwide. The winner was Mr. Gromit Eduardsen from Copenhagen cocktail bar 1105.

How to make a Copenhagen
5 cl. Bols Genever
2 cl. Cherry Heering Liqueur
2 cl. fresh pressed lime juice
2 cl. sugar syrup (Monin)
1 dash Angostura Bitters

Shake with ice cubes and strain into glass without ice. Peal a slice of an orange and put it on top, so that the scent of the orange floats on top of the cocktail offering aroma of orange.

Tastes of Copenhagen
“The Copenhagen cocktail tastes absolutely delicious. It combines the elements we were looking for. It is open to foreign influences, it is balanced, it can be enjoyed by both a Danish and international audience. It was served with style, humor and passion, and yes, it tastes of Copenhagen”, says critic Philip Duff, internationally renowned cocktail consultant and owner of Door 74 in Amsterdam.

The Copenhagen Cocktail can be ordered at the popular 1105 bar, the 5-star FIRST Hotel Skt. Petri, Red 7 Bar at Casino Copenhagen and the Busstop Bar at Radisson SAS Scandinavia Hotel in Copenhagen.
