Limfjorden
The Limfjorden strait separates Northern Jutland from the mainland - in the most beautiful way. The region is particularly famous for its many fishing spots and not least oyster and mussel harvesting. Many people in the Limfjorden area still make their living of the mussel. Every year, 51 fishing vessels land approximately 85,000 tonnes which are exported world-wide. Therefore, Limfjorden can be considered one of the world’s largest larders or wild mussels.
Løgstør
Løgstør is also known as the Town of Mussels since mussel fishing is an important industry for the town. It is uniquely situated by Limfjorden which provides plenty of opportunity for angling by the strait and in small streams - while the flat water by Trend, and in part Rønbjerg, makes kite and windsurfing possible. |

Events and Activities
Mussel Harvest Celebrations in April
The Chiefs of the Mussel Guild gather at Løgstør harbour where they evaluate and taste the freshly caught mussels and oysters. Afterwards, the catch is loaded on a horse-drawn carriage, and with the Chiefs walking in front, it is transported to town, where the harvest is displayed. The town is buzzing with life, music and not least plenty of samples for tasting.
The event takes place in April every year.
Mussel Festival
Every year, a grand mussel festival is held in Løgstør. During the festival, there will be working art-workshops, gourmet, music, nomination of the "mussel ambassador" 2008, and lots of samples and mussel dishes. The festival takes place from 1-5 July 2008. |

Mussels and oysters
The cold waters of Limfjorden is the reason why the mussels and oysters gain weight slower which makes them more meaty, and gives them a better texture and a stronger taste compared to similar species from southern Europe.
You can see the fresh mussels and oysters at the harbour when they are delivered by boat, but you also have the option to join the fishing boat yourself.

Glenholm VineyardGet an authentic wine experience! Glenholm Vineyard is located high above Limfjorden and has a wonderful view of Livø island. The season for guided tours begin in June, just before the wine starts to bloom. The tour starts in the field where you hear about growing wine in Denmark and the different types of grapes. Moreover, you will learn about preparation of the grapes, from harvest till the wine has been bottled. The tour ends with a wine tasting session where bread and cheese is served. Read more...
