Hints to Your Sailing Holiday

You don’t need your own boat to experience Denmark from the seaside. And this is an experience not to be missed. The Danish waters welcome you with an open heart – straits, belts, deep fjords, streams and lakes. Here you find mild coasts, broad beaches and idyllic places where the tree crowns almost touch the water’s edge.
No matter if you dream about just a couple of hours of sailing or a sailing holiday lasting a week or more, there is an ocean of opportunity. Go sailing with an old steam- or motor ship or experience a couple of hours on board a 100 year old sailing vessel, it will not be the last time you try it.

A week’s sailing holiday where the wind decides where you go is something very special. Under the expert guidance of the ship’s crew, you participate in the navigation – that indeed is active holiday. Maybe you go and visit one of the cosy towns; maybe you anchor at one of the more than 100 small islands. You are close to nature and the conviviality on board oozes of “cosiness”.

In visitdenmar.com a number of providers of local sailing holidays and sailing trips are registered, but you can also contact a countrywide provider of sailing holidays and hear more about the opportunities, contact e.g. www.maritimt-center.dk or www.sejlskib.dk
No prerequisites are usually needed if you want to participate in a sailing holiday. All the vessels have an experienced crew which make sure that safety requirements are met and who understand all the tasks. You will receive the necessary instructions from the crew on the ship and participate in the navigation and the everyday tasks on board to the extent you can. It is a

special experience to be at the helm of a large 100 year old schooner and feel how the wind makes the ship move. Often, a competition starts among the participants as to who makes the most delicious food and has the most “cosiness” on board.

One week’s sailing ranges from DKK 2,800 to 5,000. This includes the sailing, accommodation on board, food etc. The only thing you need to bring is what you want to drink – beer, soft drinks etc. When you return home, you will discover that it has been one of the most funny and cheap holidays you have ever been on.

Experience a glimpse of the time when ships were built of wood and men of steel. A couple of times a year, the large sailing vessels meet for regattas, cosiness and fun in the harbours. Almost all of the large ships allow passengers. You have the opportunity to try a different active holiday and a very special experience, 30-50 large ships in the water at the same time – and you are right in the middle of it.

You cannot avoid being caught up by the mood, spellbound by the view of the many ships and be completely taken over by new impressions.
