Island Camps in Denmark

Island camps mean nature, people, community, relaxation and a variety of activities on small Danish islands such as Lyø, Drejø and Samsø; close to beaches and interacting with the locals. At the island camps, the participants themselves make things work. Therefore, the camps change from one week to the other - every time one group leaves and a new one arrives.
Often, they have pre-set themes, e.g. folk music, dancing or handicrafts, but there are also camps dedicated to pure relaxation. All camps have a work schedule, so everybody takes their turn cooking, doing the dishes and cleaning. The frame of the island camps are large common tents pitched in beautiful nature areas. In other words, you are not allowed to bring your own tents. The large common tents are designated either as sleeping tents, activity tents, or as kitchen tents with kitchen utensils, bottled gas, tables and benches. Moreover, they have washing areas and dry toilet facilities. You bring your own sleeping bags and mats, but have to leave everything electrical at home (For example: DVDs, computers, hairdryers, irons etc.) since electricity is not available; the camps only use paraffin lamps and gas ovens.

The island camps are open to everybody, and the participating groups are made up of a wide variety of children, teenagers, grown-ups, singles and families. Dogs are not permitted.

The economic aspect is manageable since island camping is an affordable kind of holiday. A family consisting of two grown-ups and two children can stay a week incl. food for approx. DKK 3,000 - 3,200. Reservation must me made through Billetnet.
