City Break in Odense

The fairy-tale capital of Funen and birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen.

Odense has a wide range of exciting museums and attractions as well as a network of pedestrian precints with a varied selection of shops.

Odense, on the island of Funen, is the birthplace of the fairytale writer Hans Christian Andersen. In H. C. Andersen's House you can see intriguing exhibitions on his life and work, and in the cultural centre Fyrtøjet (The Tinder Box) children are invited into the fairytales of Hans Christian Andersen through storytelling.
Odense offers a variety of museums, theatres and music venues. Brandts Klædefabrik is a culture centre containing art galleries, a museum of photography, cafés, cinemas and more. Near Odense Concert Hall is Carl Nielsen's Museum, dedicated to the composer. The open-air museum, Den Fynske Landsby, transports us back to a bygone age and at Egeskov Castle there is exiting activities for the whole family.
For keen shoppers, Odense's network of pedestrian precincts, with shops, galleries and cafés is a great place to start. In Bazar Funen you can buy  delicious specialities from all over the world or make a bargain on clothing and jewellery. At George Jensen Damask you can among other things buy luxurious bed linen, tablecloths, and fine tea towels. In Odense there
is also plenty of cafés, restaurants and pubs to tickle everybody's taste buds.
Odense offers a variety of galleries. By Art art gallery is owned and run by local artists who work with different crafts and expressions. Værket is a 650 m2 gallery exhibiting the work of more that 80 artists from all over the country. In the summer there are Jazz Cruises on Odense River. All year round you can experience Odense Symphony Orchestra at the Odense Concert Hall.
