Denmark is a great destination for fly/drive holidays with short distances and largely uncrowded roads. As you eat up the kilometres you’ll enjoy a good impression of the variety of holiday experiences available by combining city stays in Copenhagen and Aarhus with a visit to the artists’ paradise of Skagen on the very northern tip of Jutland. Take a few diversions and include a visit to Hans Christian Andersen’s birthplace, Odense and Ribe , the oldest town in Denmark.

The Daisy route takes drivers along country lanes and through tiny villages where farms selling produce on the side of the road.
•All the major car rental companies are represented in Denmark, as are brokers including Holiday Autos and Suncars. Expect to pay from around £150 a week for the smallest group A car. •The Danes drive on the right, like the rest of Europe. •Drivers should keep dipped headlights on all the time. •Drivers must carry a warning triangle in the boot at all times in case of breakdown. •Speed limits are 66mph on motorways, 46mph on other roads and 30mph in built-up areas. CHECK •Drivers generally have to be aged over 21 to hire a car, but this rises to 25 years for some companies. •Petrol costs about 80p a litre. Diesel costs about 60p a litre. •Bridge Toll: The Great Belt Link that connects Sealand to Funen by bridge and tunnel. The toll for a car and five passengers is about £23.

Day 3-5 Drive across the grand Great Belt Bridge across to Funen, the island of Denmark also known as the garden of Denmark. Continue south and stay near the picturesque small town of Faaborg on the beautiful southern coast. Day 6-8 Move on to the central part of Jutland and the Danish Lake District. This is another great central location for experiencing beautiful nature and some city culture, hot shopping and great people. Aarhus, Denmark’s 2nd biggest city is only 1 hour away. www.silkeborg.com www.visitaarhus.com
Day 8-9
Continue to the northern part of Jutland and stay near Aalborg, the 3rd biggest town in Denmark, another historic city with Northern Europe’s biggest Viking burial ground. Drive back to Copenhagen and fly back to the UK.

Day 3-4
Continue across the grand Great Belt Bridge onto Funen also known as the Garden of Denmark. This is not just a green pretty island but the birthplace of the renowned writer Hans Christian Andersen who got much of his inspiration from this fascinating part of Denmark. Day 5-6 The final part of this historic introduction takes you to the east coast of Jutland staying near the town of Kolding, which is another great location for being within easy reach of a number of great historic attractions. Kolding can offer historic visitors the experience of a former royal castle built in 1268. Ribe, the oldest town in Denmark is only one 1 hour’s drive away and is simply a living historic picture. The whole of the city centre is cobbled streets surrounded by old houses and buildings. Ribe also has a living Viking Centre as well as a Viking museum.
