Since 1825, Rønnede Kro has held a central location along the old main road that, for generations, connected the capital with southern Zealand and the islands.

The buildings were constructed at that time by Gisselfeld Monastery, and the inn had royal privileges. Therefore, the inn was required to provide the serving of alcoholic beverages, accommodation for traveling guests, and the care of the riders' horses.

Over the years, the inn has served various purposes, including as a post office, a grocery store, and a telegraph station. To handle these tasks, a total of 34 people lived at the inn in 1870, including the innkeeper and his family, a postal clerk, a merchant, nine male servants, and two musicians.

Many prominent personalities have visited Rønnede Kro over the years. In the old guestbook, you can find greetings from, among others, Walt Disney, Dirch Passer, Bodil Kjær, and Lily Broberg. H.C. Andersen mentioned Rønnede Kro several times in his letters, as it was here that he disembarked from the stagecoach when visiting the surrounding estates.

Today, Rønnede Kro has been completely restored with respect for its history and a relaxed style.

In the restaurant, the focus is on flavors, and the menu is created in close collaboration with local suppliers to ensure high quality at reasonable prices. The fundamental idea is to serve delicious food at affordable prices, reminiscent of the inns of days gone by.
