Vejle Windmill
The Vejle Windmill is one of the landmarks of Vejle. Perhaps even the number 1 landmark of Vejle. Located on the hillside in the southern part of Vejle, the beautiful old windmill can be seen from large parts of the city. From the mill's platform, there is an impressive view over the city of Vejle, Grejsdal, Vejle Fjord, and Vejle Ådal.
There has been a mill at the site since 1846, but the current building dates back to 1890, and its equipment is from the 1930s. The building served as a mill until 1960, and its impressive interior machinery gives a good impression of how the mill operated. The mill has contributed to an overall history of milling in Vejle, but has also been in focus in some contexts – for example, during the occupation of Vejle in 1864 or the two occasions when the mill burned, in 1890 and 1938. In the latest fire, only certain parts of the mill were affected, which is otherwise largely intact from 1890.
Vejle Windmill is open during the summer season from April 1st until the end of the school autumn break in week 42 and can be visited during this period from Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Vejle Windmill also houses the Vejle Kunstforening (Vejle Art Society). It is possible to visit the mill outside the season when Vejle Kunstforening is open. Learn more about their opening hours and current exhibitions at vejlekunstforeningmoellen.dk (only in Danish).
