Vilstrup Church

Perhaps the most beautiful church in Southern Jutland.

Vilstrup church lies in scenic natural surroundings, not far from forest and beach. The church is dedicated to Saint Andrew, and is a large, whitewashed cruciform church.

The tower has a very distinct lead-clad onion-spire dating back to a remodel in 1748. The tower was previously used as a sea mark, when the previously dried up Slivsø was a sea gulf.

The inside of the church today is the result of a large restoration in 1939-40. The present alterpiece is also from 1939-40 in a baroque-imitation drawn by Lønborg-Jensen. In the frames are 5 paintings from the old alterpiece made in 1803.

If you are walking the Camino Haderslev Næs trail, you are bound to pass Vilstrup Church, which is possibly one of the most beautiful churches in Southern Jutland, as the dividing point between stage 7 and 8 on the trail.

The church is open during the daytime, 8am to 8 pm.
