Keeping the elderly Active, Motivated and Sharp.

Visit Programme

The delegates will get the chance to visit a recreational centre in the GreenBelt area.

Recreational centres are targeted at senior citizens, and anyone beyond the age of sixty is welcome. Theusers are charged a symbolic payment for their membershipos such centres. This, in return, entitles them to unlimited use of the facilities, and gives them access to a number of activities, for example: dance classes, darts, gymnastics, woodwork, weaving, art, flower arranging, music, cooking and so on.

At the centre, the delegates will get a ruided tour of the premises (including the central kitchen that caters for approximately 500 people a day). The activity leader will explain about the dailyrunning of the centre and the philosophy behind such initiatives. the delegates will get the chance to have lunch at the centre i.e. to try the delisious and nutritious meals from the central kitchen.

Duration of visit:

Approx. 3 hours

Outcome

Upon visiting the recreational centre, attending the lecture and participating in the following deisucssion session, the delegates should gain insight into the philosophy behind, and purpose of, such centres and their leisure activity offers.
Hopefully, they will be inspired by the many activities and the feeling of community/connectedness bweteen the users that they create, which is also part of what makes such centres exciting and meaningful parts of the community.
