As a country, denmark has one of the largest per capita foreign trade turnovers in the world; it is, howver, still an agricultural country and approximately 66% of the total area of the country is devoted to farming. Every year, Danish farmers produce foodstuffs sufficient for approx. 15 million people, which is three times the population of Denmark.
The GreenBelt is home to a number of agricultural reserach and development units. These units/centres possess the lates know-how in sustainable agriculture and technological innovation, and carry out research in for instance animal husbandry and plant production including experimental cultivation.
The delegates will get the chance to visit Research Centre Foulum, which is the largest unit under the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences/Aarhus University. Research Centre Foulum disposes of a build up area of aprrox. 100,000 m2 and 550 hectares of land. The research this is conducted at Foulum is publicly funded, and, therefore, the centre is committed to disseminate the new knowledge/research results to the benefit of trade and industry. At Foulum, the delegates will get a guided tour of the premises and afterwards members of the Tech Trans group i.e. scientists conducting research in relevant fields will give an introduction to these topics and participate in a following question and answer session.

Outcome
Upon visiting the research and development unit, attending the lectures and participating in the following discussion sessions, the delegates should gain insight into the Danish methods of production and the technological possibilities within farming.
