Wood and straw-fired heating plants

Renewable Energy - Wood and Straw-Fired district Heating Plants

Visit Programme

Wood-chips and wood-pellets i.e. by-products from forestry are very important sources of renewable energy.

The use of wood-chips as fuel at district heating plants has increased significantly since the 1980's, when the first forest-chip-fired plants came into operation. Today there are approx. 50 of these plants operating in Denmark.

GreenBelt Denmark will give the delegates the opportunity to visit a wood and straw-fired district heating plant in the GreenBelt area. Here, the delegates will see and learn how the above mentioned waste products are turned into energy.

The delegates will get an on-site tour of the plant, meet the manager, and get a general introduction to wood-chip energy and its potential.

Duration of visit:

Approx. 1.5 hours

Outcome

Upon visiting the plant, attending the lecture and participating in the following disucssion session, the delegates should be able to form an impression of the waste-to-energy possibilities of wood-chips and learn from the Danish experiences.
